Amankila - A Rustic Opulent Pleasure

Updated: Apr 9, 2021

Tucked inside its own private bay with Mt. Agung at its northern side, Amankila is arguably Bali’s most beautiful property.

It is elegant, marbled floor and frangipani-lined walkways. It is tranquil, stilted suites with traditionally-vaulted ceilings and modern amenities inside. But above all, it is intimate; a perfect sense of seclusion and personalized attention.

My stay there started with a warm welcome from Amankila staff, who gave me a quick tour of the resort and whisked me away into my suite. I spent the next few hours gazing at the perfect ocean view in front of my room and reading the last few pages of my book.

At sunset, I enjoyed a nice swim at the resort’s three-tier pool and relax at the cabana. I was already excited for my next day adventure, a private boat trip!

Aman’s outrigger boat is customized to be classy, yet extremely comfortable. They took me snorkeling at an uncommon site near Blue Lagoon, and oh how wonderful it was. I have snorkeled in Blue Lagoon many times before and it never impressed me. But in this secret spot, I saw many healthy corals teeming with fishes. I even spotted a big pufferfish and baby stingray!

The trip ended with a nice picnic lunch on board the boat deck while the captain took me cruising along the whole bay. I was as happy as a kid.

The rain cloud started rolling in after the boat trip, so I decided to take a long flower bath in my room. I returned to the same cabana for sunset and decided to go for their canape and cocktail, before enjoying dinner at the resort.

The next day, I rose early to enjoy their hilltop breakfast. High up on their private hill, Amankila owns a nice private bale with views to die for. On one side you have a clear horizon towards Mt. Agung. On the other, you have beautiful ocean view facing slightly east, where the sun rises. This breakfast experience was nothing short of magical!

Ernst Ludick, the general manager, hosted me for lunch before I checked out. It was a wonderful final touch; the people at Amankila have been the nicest and most attentive to me.

I am looking forward to returning here in the future.
